After months of effort, and much learning, I have built my idealized drum sequencer. Thank you to the Usine team and also to the community for being an inspiration and source of learning during this process.

So, here is Sequins!

Image

This is a patch that I have been working on from the very beginning of my Usine adventure. It was in fact the reason I picked up Usine in the first place. I was originally calling it 'Battery Machine' in a play on the popular NI products, but its potential feels too great to give it a gimmick for a name.

I've rigged it up to an LPD8 before, so the potential is there. However, I wanted to stop procrastinating and get this into the hands of the people! Look for LPD8, Launchpad, and even an LXR-specific versions in the future.

From the add-on page description:

[q]Sequins is a MIDI sequencer. It was designed with drum programming in mind, but can in fact be used for any MIDI sequencing desires thanks to its flexible note length option.

This patch has 4 sequencing lanes, but one can easily change the number of polyphonic voices on the 'sequins core' sub-patch.

Each lane has 32 triggers, a step sequencer for velocity, and two step sequencers for modulation (they emit from 0 to 1 so that they work seamlessly with controlling VST parameters). Each step sequencer can have independent minimum, maximum, and default values and comes with a reset button that will reset to the default value without resetting the triggers. Each lane also has a 'global' reset that will clear all the sequencing data. The note value, MIDI channel, and synchro can also be set independently.

Sequins uses a custom method to save and recall patterns (rather than the default preset management system in Usine). The current pattern is saved immediately upon the selection of a new pattern. The new pattern will load at the beginning of the next 'synchro'[/q]

Here is what it looks like before you attach it to a MIDI device/VST.

Huge work and cool color set, congrats !

seems there 's a bad link on the reset buttons of your velocity sequencer, the toggle amongst many is linked to the reset inlet in place of the where inlet..?

and another cool idea...here..? :)

Thanks Nay!

re: the connections on the velocity sequencer, it appears that I have uploaded an older version! I will fix that ASAP.

However, I am having trouble 'expanding' the control panel on the sequins core sub-patch. There should be a small arrow that would point down or left depending on if it is expanded or not. I don't see any obvious options that re-enable this functionality. What's going on here?

Okay, fixed it by importing an older version of sequins core and getting it to parity. Luckily (and after quite a few less well-thought out designs) I seem to have gotten to a point where the instrument is pretty easy to work with in that regard. Especially the container design of this patch makes for switching polyphony on and off less of a pain than it would otherwise be.

Also, here's a start :)

The arrow issue is solved in the next version.

Well done for the wiki page, thanks. I've add some settings and see also titles ;)

suggestion: add a sub-patch with 4 samplers ( driven by midi) with mod 1 & 2 on simple effects parameters, this way even newbies (or lazy users) can test it quickly..?
yo can rename this sub patch " replace me by your favorite plug-in"...

It's a good idea! Not sure about a timescale though. I'm quite eager to make an LXR-optimized Sequins edition as well. Maybe I'll happen to record 4 samples on the way and drop them in :)

Might be for two weeks at least though. Other duties call!
