Usine shouldn't write to the "Program Files" folder, it is incompatible with the latest Windows versions and UAC feature of Windows Vista/Seven.
I know I can run Usine as administrator.

Following Microsoft requirements:
-If you need to write user data, use the "Documents" folder: FOLDERID_LocalAppData
-If you need to write system data, use the "Application Data" folder: FOLDERID_ProgramData

An example in Windows 7:
c:Users<username>DocumentsUsine
c:Users<username>AppDataLocalSensomusicUsine

Yes I know but for that I have to create an "Installer" to install Usine properly.
Personally I prefer to keep the "Unzip and play" installation style.
So I don't know...

ok I understand the problem, in fact I hate Windows Installer (MSI).
A basic setup program (like Inno Setup) should be nice for first users but I don't very like the idea.

Another idea, keep the ZIP file and Usine builds an environment at his first start:
-move (or copy) user data files in "DocumentsUsine"
-move (or copy) program data files in "AppDataLocalSensomusicUsine"
-open the quick start help page
-open a demo song
etc...

If I remember, Ableton Live does something like that, maybe you should look at.

I would be happy with a new 'user' tab in the browser of which you can set the location in global setupand which contains your own work.
With the current rate of updates (which I appreciate very much btw) its a bit of a hassle to put your own work in the usine folder each time. (so far I think this the only way to show this in the usine browser)
I know you can browse to any location via 'open patch' but then you don't have the option to insert the patch as subpatch. When you drag a patch from the windows browser or something like total commander, you can tho.

do you have noticed that you can save your setup, midilearns an reload them in the new version?

Still I think there is no way to access patches outside the usine folder (unless patch->open->browse->etc..)
While we're at it, what is the 'alternate drive' for ? It is not explained in the help file.

"Alternate drive" seems to be a fail-over drive.

Alternate drive:
Alternative drive used is files aren't found on their original drive.
For example, all your files are on D: and for any reason, it has crashed and all you're data's are lost. Fortunately , you have another backup copy drive called G:. So if you tell Usine that your "alternate drive" is G: you'll be able to reload all your workspaces normally without changing the wave, midi, patch file names.
It's the ultimate rescue solution.
