Hi Usiners,

As I've said it on another topic, I come again with my (stupid ?) questions.

Problem today is that I am testing Usine in it's free version to see if it is the perfect tool I'm looking for. As an information, just know that I don't have any MIDI stuff at the present time.

I've managed to create most of my wanted patch BUT... yes there's a but, I can't use them the way I would like. Here's an example :
- I created 2 tracks
- each track have a patch
- each patch use some key buttons (computer keyboard) to trigger some effect/sample
Problem :
- I can't have 2 patches active at the same time which means I can't trigger my effect and sample at the same time.
To be more precise, patch one requires key A and Q to be pressed and patch two requires P... but if I press P as patch one is selected (Grid or Live mode...same for sequencer mode btw), nothing happens.

So does it come from my computer ? Is this normal ? Does the same thing happen with MIDI signals (external keyboard or controllers) ?

edit : Another example would be this one : I have some stuff and several loops prepared on the sequencer mode...I want to be able to change loops (previous, next) as weel as being able to trigger my effects in the live mode...could MIDI be my answer ? Do I have to gather it all in a big patch ?

I don't know how the sequence mode acts since I have no real use for it (yet), but as it is now, Usine only recognizes the computer keyboard for the current patch (unless it's an assigment in the global remote, of course).

By adding a couple of modules you can however override this. Use the Interface Control/Keyboard module together with some Math/Logical stuff. The Keyboard module has separate outputs for key number, modifier keys and pressed/key up.

More work than adding a switch or button and using the key learn of course, but not too hard. You could even program different stuff to happen on key down/up and whether the state of a modifier key has changed while the key is being pressed etc.

Just an idea that occured to me now: Why not use the keyboard repeat to create machine-gun-like triggers, while using shift to switch between two different sounds?

The behaviour for MIDI signals can be set up to act in two different ways; check out the manual, chapter 11 "About Midi input".

Thanks I'll take a look at the Interface Control/Keyboard... it might be some solution.

I've checked this. I understand that there are different "modes" : Global vs Patch (third one is for VSTi). I also understand that in "Patch mode" the tracks get only info from corresponding MIDI chan (track 1 = Midi chan 1)...but as I've never used MIDI stuff, it's not that clear to me. Imagine I have a controller with whatever button or switches or faders : is it possible to have part of the buttons dedicated to chan 1 and others to chan 2 ?

I think I have to learn more about MIDI...any website to help me ?

I'm working on a new version with a new option in the setup:
actually, keylearn is active only when the track is selected; with the new option you can make keylearn 'global' (I mean even if the track is not selected)

That would be fine !
Still, most of my issue could be avoided by the use of MIDI controllers properly set up (Lemur could be an expensive but exceptional solution)...I just need money !
