I've just run Usine on my relatively new tx2500 tablet for the first time (my last laptop suffered an unfortunate electrical accident, RIP), and I am finding the cpu use vs desktop is much higher than I would expect.
The default workspace that loads with Usine (4.2 beta8),running uses between 45-55% of the dual core AMD QL-62 2Ghz cpu with all Usine settings default, except for the multi core 2 threads setting.

The same default workspace loaded and running on my intel core 2 quad core 3.5Ghz desktop with all Usine settings default, except for the multi core 2 threads setting (for comparison sake I am not using 4 threads) uses 1-2% ! (x2 = 2-4% of two cores)
Lets say that my desktop is 3x faster than the tx2500 while using only two cores, that should still only amount to 12% or maybe even 15- 20% cpu running the same workspace on the tablet, but 45-55%?

Both computers are using the same audio hardware, PCI Express/Expresscard > RME Multiface II set at a 256 sample buffer.
The desktop is running Windows XP 64-bit, the tablet is running Windows 7 evaluation/beta.

Could this big of a performance gap be because of Windows 7, or are the AMD cpu's really not very efficient?
I assume there are at least several of these tablets in use around here. What results are you getting?

I guess yes, but is the laptop alimentation settingz set to "always active", can do a lot.

seems disapointing results, sad truely nice otherwise, I hesitated to buy one, I finally got back a cheap layer for mbp 15"..

edit : arf and im just about to install W7 beta...mmmm

..so just installed W7, first impressions: quite fast and responsive, touchscreen feel much better, seems very good

4.2 demo gives me 30;40 cpu average in 512ms asio4all on dual 2.33, saddly didn't check before on XP.. quite high also..

edit: on ableton live results seems same between Xp and W7, had a liveset at 50 percent still the same.

I guess i'll just have to trim the fat for the little ultra mobile setup I have in mind. At least I should still be able to keep lots of stuff preloaded in RAM.

I have the same result on my TX2Z...

I think it's the AMD processor...(and my fan sound like an airplane! very scary sometimes ahahah)

Anyway , i can run Usine ,Ableton 7(with a lot of reaktor5 hungry plug) and Audiocubes software quite well (sometime some slow touch...)

it's crasy we still so easy ruin cpu on modern laptop when making sound..still have to be very carefull..

30-35% on my gf's core 2 dual 1.8Ghz Vista bogged down laptop. I see a clear winner hear. Just for fun I made 10 copies of everything in the Welcome patch and managed to get my desktop to use a whole 26% of two cores..! So GHz-Ghz, my desktop intel is apprx twice as fast as my gf's intel and no less than 5X as fast.per cpu Mhz in the Usine test... Can my fsb 1800-ish and faster ram really make that big a difference? It still seems unproportional to me...

As an IT person, one of the best things you can do on the OS/software side, is the following:

Start > Run > msconfig
Services tab > Hide all Microsoft services > Uncheck everything you don't want/need
Startup tab > Uncheck everything you don't need

Just my two cents, it might help someone
