i took a look into the features, and everythings there. so why not use it as a full-blown daw?

it can use audio, i can put a pianoroll to my favorite vsti and edit it like in ableton. (i havent figured out yet how to put items on that sequencer, so i am a bit stuck right now, and usine doesnt recognize my keyboard tho the midi input blinks nicely if i press a key). features say i can add items to that timeline (sequencer).

whats the major thing that doesnt let you use usine as a standalone daw for producing?

for me: piano roll (eg. zoom, rectangle tool) and song sequencer (eg. resize, stretch blocks) more cubase-alike.

just to say that USINE is my single daw to produce music...

I only use an audio sequencer (LOGIC) for mixing.

I thing Usine can be a standalone daw for producing, one thing is difficult to do wih usine is editing audio (but that's not a the goal of Usine), so like Cybercharles said, you can use another daw like Logic, ProTools or Pyramix....
It's a completely open daw, you can do stuff you never imagine with a computer, and a lot of things are not imagine yet....

now that sounds great! so my idea is not doomed from the start ^^

great news. now i will just have to figure out some things. what i really liked about usine is its openness. since i am not really experienced with recording software/DAWs (i restarted producing 6 weeks ago, well, i work quite fast, 20 tracks on virb etc), working with usine is much less intuitive than working in ableton was. but thats fine with me - if usine can do what i hope it can, its well worth the time (and anger, i hate it when inanimate things dont "obey" me^^)

edit: i guess this will be the first DAW i try where i actually have to READ the manual. live, logic and sonar just worked well via try and error.

also remember you can run usine as a vst inside live or whatever to record and mix your tracks if you're mor comfortable with that...
