Here ahs,
I made you a simple patch with some comments within the patch edit to help you understand.
It is basically two examples using the output of an XY pad to convert to MIDI or different values, and the second is an LFO output to MIDI
I am driving MIDI to the VST in this example, instead of direct however once you start getting the logic it becomes simple to modify for your needs.

Regardless, you now have at least some commented example to help you build some MIDI with, or learn how to adapt some controls once you get your pitchbend question resolved.
