new here question about vsts

Hi I am a total newbe of this software so bare with me.
It says you can just drag any vst to the patch window and it will show up, but when I go to my vst's and try and drop one in it does nothing. Am I missing something?
also if I load up say a fx patch or step sequencer how do you use that? do you have to have a sampler set up to it or is it used an Aux send , how does it effect another track

Normally it work only in patch modification view (mode 1).

what is strange is that when I click on vst folder it shows an open folder but that's it so I am trying to drag and open folder to patch mode 1. It's not opening like it shows in your manual.
how can I download the add-ons? I have registered Usine.
