I may be doing something wrong. Usine is freezing up when I load a piano VSTI into it (TruePianos, which runs well, with little CPU load, in most sequencers.)

I noticed in the Setup screen that the Help list said that the bloc size should always read 32, 46, 64, 80, or 96. Mine reads 128. I'm using ASIO4All, as the help file suggests, but I'm not sure its settings are correct. Are there settings that you suggest for ASIO4All?

I'll check this problem with the demo version of truePianos.

A bloc size of 128 samples is perfect. (Sorry I forgot to update the manual...)

It lets me play just fine for a few minutes, and then it locks up. Doesn't seem to happen only when I hit a large number of notes.

Something that's strange, and that might help you to trace the problem: when it first locks up, the meters say that only about 30-40& of the CPU is being used. After it locks up, however, that number rises to around 98%. (My processor protection is set to the default of 95%.)

And also strange: when I bring up Windows Task Manager, after the freeze, and while Usine is still loaded, it shows Usine.exe taking up 103,000 kb of memory. Even alone, the program seems to take up more memory than I want: if I just open Usine and open a new blank workspace, Task Manager shows it taking up almost 33 megs of RAM. (Hate to do a direct comparison, but Reaper comes up in the Task Manager as only taking up 1,800 kb by itself, and 94,000 kb with TruePianos loaded. Is Usine supposed to need this much memory?)

In addition, after the freeze, even after I close Usine, it still shows up in the Task Manager, and refuses to end via End Process, although if I try for 6-7 times and then close Task Manager and do something else for a few minutes, it sometimes goes away.

Using the latest version of ASIO4All. Thanks for any suggestions.

verdict:

Doesn't work on 2.64. I really don't know why, but seems to come more from the VST it self than Usine.

BUT

Works fine on 2.75 (next release, very soon)!
If you toggle off the 'increase polyphony' option on single core CPU, and perfecty (any setup) on dual core.
Please, don't ask me why...

Thanks for the fast response. I'll look forward to the next release. Your program is great.
