You could possibly do it with a patch. You can detect the XY and mouse up on the fader parameters. Maybe tricky to distinguish drag from a touch.
Perhaps the add-on Touch Faders can do it, or could be given the option.
Or write your own fader with a user module - a lot of work though.

I've thought about doing a user module for the knobs. I wanted an option to have drag "safe" limits, but senso thought too
specific which is probably true. My option would prevent a value going outside certain limits on a single drag - e.g. for a filter
you want to swipe between 2 values in live performance, but still shut down all the way with a further swipe.
I did it with a patch in the end but its not perfect.

Well, I checked it out, and I guess I will not use it. First of all, it still requires a drag to change values and second, it's a separate mode that has to be switched on or off.

My fader goes to value when pressed like a button (on mouseup, of course) and changes value relatively when dragged. There is no need for different modes, it is always ready to respond to either a drag or a press.

No big deal, of course.

in fact I realize that this option is already implemented:
settings of the fader / mouse tab / mouse-mode option : relative (default) absolute (the feature request)

would need to be an -option- for sure...not a good default behavior.... but it did seem to be reliable for me in my implementation. And with a slow curve, you would have a chance to recover from a mis-touch.

One note: I have been noticing that my faders sometimes jump to max value and back to my finger briefly during adjustment. Never encountered that with v4 or 3. Doesn't happen often, so don't know what else to say.

It use to be like that by the past but it was very dangerous, ie. bad touch on a master fader...
I'll think about that, maybe propose an option.

In my failed attempt to move my workspace to reaper, I had occasion to develop my own gui widgets, using the excellent scythe toolkit for reaper. (Long story short, all the gui stuff worked great, but reaper's real time capability was completely insufficient!)

I set up my faders so that they worked normally in relative mode with a drag, but I could just touch the fader at a particular point along its length, and the mouse up event would set the fader to that value. I found it really useful to set a bunch of fader values quickly. And I was even working on the capability to move at a user selectable rate from the current value to the new touched value.

I think that might be a nice feature, and I didn't have much trouble implementing it in scythe... It seemed to work quite reliably for me from my touch screen.
