This version as far as I know is no longer updated (Someone correct me on this as I really have no other knowledge regarding future support.), and HollyHock is the flagship updated application that is being worked (HH2 expected in near future).

Yes the older version of Usine has a VST support, however there are a lot of great new features with HollyHock that is not within the older versions, and tons of new features and updates being added all the time.

There are probably a lot of veteran Usine people who are still using for performances or have not switched over completely, but as for moving forward I have stuck with HollyHock when it first came out and have just moved forward with that.

There are differences and compatibilities issues possibly which some others can probably fill more information for, but for moving forward I would suggest HollyHock.

I am using HollyHock which is standalone and does not have VST.
So I run as two different applications and work through this way.

Older Usine versions I do not have experience working with so I am not at all familiar with the interfacing.

So in my setup:

HollyHock as a slave or master using a modified version of Moonsafari's midi clock method. ( I do have some drift issues, but this fixed my issue).

I generally start off running both applications simultaneously using ASIO monitoring, Sonar typically the Master driving clock to HollyHock via LoopMidi. You could port a LoopMidi feedback through to Sonar and record the automation, and then do the readback via LoopMidi to your Racks.

Actually recording I will either use the Rec Out of HollyHock for a two track, or feed out an RME stereo pair, back into another set for Sonar.

That is just a general setup I do, although I have various depending on what I am wanting to do.

Thanks again for your great ideas. I have bounced to several different DAWs and just left Cakewalk's Touch for Tracktion 6. I was wondering if I made some really great sound ideas in the Usine VST if my movements and such in Usine would be recorded as automation in the DAW somehow? I could always route the audio through rewire or Reaper's equivalent or through the ASIO driver from HH or Usine to Tracktion, but I thought it might be convenient to record the movements in Usine VST in the DAW. Does that make sense? I guess I could just test it out either way, but I figured others might have already tested this out. Does it work in SONAR for you?

Regarding automation, there are options within...however what DAW are you speaking of?

I utilize Sonar as my main Project DAW, and USINE as my creative/performance/sound design platform.
As far as your question regarding recording automation this can be done in several ways.
There are record options within HollyHock for automating parameters, MIDI Bindings for remote control, as well as methods to input and output MIDI to other applications for recording or playback there. Are you speaking of using HollyHock or older version of Usine?

If you are on Windows PC:
Look into getting Tobias Ericsons LoopMidi, this will allow you to create Virtual Midi Ports and you can pump the output MIDI to your other applications and vice-versa....wonderful tool for managing MIDI routes between. He also has an RTP application for sending MIDI over LAN. HollyHock also has a Network MIDI over LAN feature as well for multiple setups.

There are ways to provide and synch between the DAW as well as automation methods you could use. The only other issue at the moment is if you want the audio to go to your DAW from HollyHock you will need a virtual Audio router, or manually from output of your soundcard into your DAW input. I believe the road path for HollyHock includes implementation of Rewire to simplify this as well, but no release date at the moment has been given.

As far as Multi-Sampler controls, yes there are various examples you can use to build from...or plenty of people such as myself willing to help you to get to that point. Hope this information helps, let me know what specifics you are looking for and I will try to help.

I've posted a few posts recently because I really want to get into USINE more. I was wondering if anyone had created a 16 X granular sampler type MPC layout that they wanted to share for use with the Quneo controller. If not, I am going to start doing so. Anyone have any ideas on what might be a good starting place for this? I imagine using it this way would be really great live, but I am looking for any information on recording too. For instance, if I build this patch and use it in my DAW, will it record the performance and XY movements and play it back if I record into my DAW or will it only work live unless I program in MIDI messaging, etc. Or would the MIDI automation recording be saved when I record in my DAW for playback?

Any ideas or patches that could be oriented towards this would be great or I will start cobbling what will probably be a little messy.
