Can you try to send a workspace example...? Cause I'm not sure we talk about the same concept ( rack preset ? )

the copies are listed as synth1-2 synth1-3 but i am unable to drag them into the mixer

i made empty racks and loaded the same rack preset. I can only drag different racks in the mixer not copies of the same rack

how do you have made this rack copy , using the duplicate command button..?
generally Usine create automatically new number for each rack, rack-1, rack-2...
this message appear in the console only if you try to drag , for example rack 2 twice..

i am trying to drag the rack. It seems that hollyhock wont let me drag a rack in that is identical to a rack already in the mixer window

you can't drag patches on the mixer, only racks..

i meant really just a patch. It is the vst synth1 which i added a different filter to. I can drag one instance of it to the mixer panel but when i try to drag a second it gives me an error message saying the mixer already exists.

I copied a customized vst instrument 4 times and i am trying to add them via drag and drop to the toolbox window.
I was able to drag the first one in but the next instrument I drag in I get this error message in the trace window.
The mixer already exists.
I tried to option click on the their titles in the rack and give them different titles but that didnt help.
Its as if the toolbox wont let the others in because it thinks its the same? I dont get it.
