I'm sure you can find good ones on the net.

really surprising and really good! Yeah, I like that. I already did the suggestion but try this, it's just fearsome: Carbon2/Sprawm Zero connected to Istavan Kaldor eDirt. Really dirty. I'm sure Handel would have love it. I'm gonna compose a short sequenced random almond fugue for this (and maybe something else). Just give me a couple of years. Well about composing, I use Usine for instance to compose small midi sequences in the piano roll and then mangle them with patching, using random, sync module etc... The sequencer is also very useful.
Or to record and mix loops of different kinds.
When comosing I use improvisation a lot as a basis to create musical ideas, wich I then refine and adjust to my taste and needs. For this Usine is perfect.
About Reaktor, I too use it a lot and appreciate it a lot. But I actually don't really build my own instruments in Reaktor (I find it too long and technical, and not so much intuitive), neither do I really use the built in instruments in an advanced way since each of them is so specific and a whole world in itself (especially the grooveboxes), so I mainly use them "as is", or sometimes modify them a bit to my needs. But what I do a lot is simply to patch a few Usine modules and wires to them and then, very easily, the Reaktor instruments sound really surprising. I really find Usine globally more simple and intuitive. But for sure Reaktor is really great sounding.

Really? I'm wondering how. I'm used to compose with notes on a score. A very antique way, indeed, but truly the most free I know. How do you compose? That could be a huge topic.It's true that I really like improvising with Usine and sometimes, those impros drive me to compose something. Well, I'm not sure I completely agree. Max/MSP, as far as I know, requires real deep knowledge, not Reaktor. I use Usine and Reaktor together, it's just great. Reaktor is very stable to. Zero crash to zero crash. One important difference, thou, with CPU overload: Reaktor just stops as Usine stops half a second and restarts. On stage, in the middle of your solo, it's not exactly the same trip...
Hem, hem, hem... It looks like some commercial. Just the same when I talk about GigaStudio... Or Usine, well, OK.Well this is not a commercial for Usine but simply some more thoughts after a while of using Usine until now...

Just to add that I agree with you, Usine is more than an amazing "loop machine". There are so many uses of it:
- midi audio router
- extremely powerful VST host
- computer-human communication and interaction
- real time audio transformer-looper-sampler-mangler-ice cream maker
- compositional tool
- working space for improvisation and/or stucture
- usable very simply or customizable to very deep and complex level
- very sublte "randomness" manipulator

wow i made a randommy drum machine in a few minutes. the sampler module is REALLY nice. and Usine seems to perfectly fit to my "modular way of thinking". I'm an audiomulch user and a bidule user, but Usine seriously rocks !
Well, well, this modular way of thinking is really great. I love it too. But it seems to me I'm missing something great there.I mean, should I leave some room for random in my music?
And all guys talking about loops... I just feel... dropped. I don't know what to do with loops! I really don't! As soon I'm in the second loop I want to go out of it. Is there something I need to be explicated, or am I stupid or what?

For looping while overdubbing, just check the "echoplex" patch in the add-ons, that's what it's made for, and of course you can customize it to fit your precise needs.
