i believe the fact you need two keys combo is a security for live situation.

Could we be able to use the delete key (or backspace for later mac users) to delete objects ?
Sure, Ctrl X works, but why not authorize us to use a single key (made for this) instead of two, and there is some circumstances when replacing the clipboard when deleting an object is an annoyance.
