and sure ipad is sexy small and touch accurate and can make a really cool midi controller,(especially if app is bidirectional and you use usine as an underlayer mmm) if i hadn't discovered usine i would have got one from a long time, but there we are, and 2k11 seems at last the W7 slates coming year or multitouch monitors, so imo worth waiting a bit more..im pretty sur we will see descent alternative <=500$ this year.

Ok - there seem to be a misunderstanding... - i never said that it is like usine - just that you can create your own
(not very detailed) GUI.
I know the capabilities of usine. And i use them a lot and everything i want to do i can do (thanks to senso).
And i know that you three guys and the community will make it a lot better.

But one of my main problems is to control (!!!) my usine interface (or machine- i dont care that much about
the interface stuff - i care about the secret ( ;-) ) stuff usine is doing for me). Sure - a 22" inch monitor
for 200 $ will do the job. But when i am on stage, playing with 3 keyboards, i dont have the space nor the time
to set up a monitor this big. All i ever wanted is a small multitouch solution from 10" to 13" that works - i tried
horrible stuff... Besides that - my rack is standing behind me, so a built-into-a-rack monitor solution wont work for me.

And sure - a small w7 tablet would be perfect - hopefully asus will release their eeePad - but when ?!?!
and the price will also be above 600$ or 700$... I dont own an ipad - its just a good looking toy with a built in
multitouch monitor in very good size that just works - and with the option to put a midi interface to it, it seems
to be a nice thing to control my stuff. So i think 23fx23 got the idea ;-)

Good night folks...

And even simply in terms of controller, other apps are just customizable templates, it's not PATCHABLE like usine
ie in usine you can decide your crossfader will auto get back to center on finger release, or not, add some time related or enveloppe stuff, randomizer ect, you PATCH exactly what you want. decide that on 5 swichs only one can be activated at a time,
record and replay your XY moves ect. not a single ipad app match and probably will ever match usine relating the
modularity. It's not just about dropping a midi knob or fader, it's about all the complex behaviours you can invent by the behind wiring, to exactly match your own needz and the ideal setup you have in mind with quasi no limits thanks to all the modules.
Not to mention the complex presets save/recall possibilities, wavform viewing or draw objects ect.
of course Ipad can be nice for basic "classic" remote, but comparing stops there.
it's like comparing a Doepfer modular system with a cheap casio synth. of course booth can play notes, but...

im glad we atlast start to see descent W7 pc slates comming in 2k11. the Asus 12 seems sexy to host usine.

I just was wondering why no one recognized it... the iPad is finally now capable of MIDI through cable...

You have to buy the USB Camera Connection Kit and many devices will work with the iPad.

http://iosmidi.com/devices/

This app will then do all the work for (and for sure, there are more to come...) - just like Usini you can create your own GUI

http://iosmidi.com/apps/midi-touch/

For me - wireless connection with touchOSC is not very trustworthy - so the midi over cable solution is just fine.

Bye folks...
