What is the vst buffer and what does setting it to 0 actually do?

If you set the vst buffer size to 0 every thing is normal.

In this case, it's a buffer size problem which generate an hard distortion.

More generally Usine has a 'totally pure' audio thru.

I am using the VST version of 5.2 of Usine Free and was wondering why so much distortion on audio through? The images are from Christian Budde's VST plugin analyszer using identical settings for energyXT1.4 and Usine. EnergyXT looks as expected where the 1k test tone passes through unchanged. However, with Usine there is serious aliasing. Have I set up Usine wrong? I just loaded Usine and used the default patch.

Thanks :)
