Hi I have a question

For me, a video that my desire to get into the live
(touch) is the video if you can find below.

do you think it is easy to develop the same interface (version
Ableton)

Semple assign a carrer, assign effects, volume, filter.

I would love to start creating a wordspace in this sense

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ais9x25 ... re=related
i have been messing around with something like that,i have with the help of this fine forum, been able to make a grid-like setup and im able to choose and play entirelines(just like you can in ableton)choose next/prev line choose next/prev track

now i just need to find a way to make a decent interface for it all

the feedback i have now(default) that lets me see what line/track i am on,disappears when i mess around in the interface builder
but so far it is working right now its really simpel.i got alot of stuff i want to check out amongst that the tempobased samplers i will mess around alot more
and it wont need to use ableton:)

the best patch will certainly not be this one in maxmsp, or my square, but the one that you will make, with the features/simplistic ratio you want, that mach your needz, and only . usine is the ultimate tool for that, building adaptative personnal setup!

im affraid i prefer restarting square from scratch, using osc and new v5 possibilities, and simplify it a bit, trying to have a good ratio performances/simplicity as you point, it's really important. sadly im totally overbusy for now...but will find the time..

by the way go and try to make one!
it worth (imo) spending a bit amount of time checking avaible items, and the "learn usine in almost 13 mn" is cool for that.
understand the flow types, interface objects avaible and their possibilities, as well as often used math and eventflow items, cause this later help a lot on making things faster, easier, and in an optimized way. once you manage to translate what you want in a simple logic sentence (cf gurulogic quote "'The Most Logical Approach is the One That Works' sooo true), and that you know how to translate in wiring, everything is easy in usine.

you can start as guru suggest to have a look at the midi interface objects in midi, ie midiCC swich, try to understand how it works, you can clic in midlle of wires and see what's happening in.
try to setup correctly your midi in live and usine and start a simple grid, that you can easy make same colors and full screen mode using interface builder. one thing you will later want is that only a swich can be enabled at time, so instead of swich you could use listboxes, or
use the new group fonction on swichs that senso just implemented, allowing to make groups of swich (ie per track), and forcing easy to have one only activated at time... but first things first,
just experiment and have fun, when headaches comes, feel free to ask, somebody can surely help you here..

yes in the video, there are plenty of color and style is great with lots of square is cool when did a live.
it's simple and effective, I love it!

Now, as you read, I think there probably the possibility of having

one side, this side visual simple and attractive in color and design,.
must be put in full view, (if I just say it like that).

On the other hand, with plenty of ability and technique as the square, and more.

Now, if I had the choice between SQUARE and the system we see in the video is on it's Square that I choose, by chance is much more technical possibility.

I really see a fusion of: style, simplicity and technology

I still want to say that despite everything that I could see everything on the current program I have great confidence in the ability and unique style of cedric, for me it is a program much easier and more attractive as Max / msp

I am more than eager to know more about this program to perform real challenge as the say so 23fx23

at the time ou want a working/updating scroll, things complicate a bit, especially with feedback/colors, ect..
but why make it complex sometimes...

yup i play around a few months ago with liveOsc, but it was a little hard to get working, I managed to control simple commands like tempo, but i gave up at the time of controling clips cause i needed to send osc messages that i thought usine couldn't send like word, integer, integer or something like that ( it could comes from elewhere). but i should definitevely retry as it could really simplify the task and maybe the liveosc project has evolved since that time.

the actual system is midi based and really boring to decode, first each clip needs a CC assigned, then it send out 0 value went stop, 127 when trigg, 126 when loaded, 1 when playing, having to decode this for all tracks is a bit complex...

ill recheck this, i would love to truely get the color and caption from live, it's a really old big challenge but since the lemur actually can, it must be possible. thanks for my old first challenge reminder..

i imagine how many live user would enjoy that, having a clip grid with names and colors, on multitouch screen, it's a graal for many, actuay only 2 expensive solutions exist: lemur or max msp, providing a usine/usine free version would be awesome...
let's try but im afraid ableton didn't suported osc because of their deal with max., every update seems to change a bit in names that make maintenance a bit hard, at least that was the point when i was interested in the project,...maybe it has envolved since..

edit: as i quick checked it seems it has been updated for live8, so it seems really positive :)
and updating is a doable thing after all..

roooo and i just checked V5 osc updates woooow oh yeah seems possible now!
arf why don't i have long nights holidays..

23fx23,
have you at all tried to access the LiveAPI via OSC from Usine? I am still completely noob at these type of things but it seems we should be able to get clip names and all kinds of other realtime info into Usine from Live via OSC, right?

Here's the LiveOSC page in case you have no idea what the hell I'm talking about: http://monome.q3f.org/wiki/LiveOSC

square v2 was not multitouch but already implemented a live grid for 8tracks on up to 128 scenes, with feedback from live.
and 32 pages of 16 Xy controls assignable to anything in live, with colors and captions, and 16Xy cc could be recorded/sync looped.

square v3 will be multitouch and will certainly have all these features and much more....

if you want to make your hands on to make your own version, i suggest you to experiment with upcoming matrix pack,
or create several "image panel" or buttons and understand how to create midi messages from it. you can really easy create a basic grid. then later if you want to be able to scroll, to make complex manipulations with feedback from live, a solid understanding of arrays is needed i think, but don't hurry, take your time to explore all modules, and don't hesitate asking if Q..

the square was my "big patch" made in usine V4, I need to reupdate it for usine V5, that's why we removed it for now,
actuallly I hesitate restarting from scratch cause v5 allow so much new things. or updating it, but
i think i will try to first make it compatible as soon as i can, i ll let you know!

yop guys a new square is out v2.3
highly recommended update :)

change log:
_all resized: found it was too small with touch screen.
_no more pre=set caption list, directly label cells from keyboard even in ib.
_possibility to quickset colors of cell via XY (X is hue, Y lum)
_advanced midi mapping menu: can click a cell and sets what it should send for X,Y, and Z.
can be set: midich, mess type, CC/note nb, value 1(when clic/enable) , value2 (when release/disable) note on are auto set off on release. routing matrix that allow val1 and 2 to be X or Y. this allow for example to set a Y value, and Z will send the value on mouse release. sequencer midi settings with routing matrix (vel, gate, pich to XYZ or setted values, midi settings for automation.
all can be bypassed/soloed for easier assign when using midi learn.
_linked to this idea, Z, and XY can be temp muted to not affect the arrays (ie to set notes before enabling a cell).
_ the 16X,Y,Z can be reset on the current page independantly, or together for the 32pages.
_new storing for the XYZ arrays to make patterns and swich on the fly nicely (16)
_fader to display the notes names.
_various bug fixs and visual adjust, new leds blinking on notes and a try of technoish XY representation
_grid usable without live.

only boring: long to wire(senso help is this the undos) and a bit high on cpu, but tested as very powerfull imo :)
you shouldn't have to wire anyway, as either you can use the buid in midi, or you can bypass it if pro user and can tweak using
the busses in another subpach outside the square., there is a description of usefull busses.

help tut inside the pach, directly midi routed synth example, if ya need don't hesitate.
hope ya enjoy.

ps need beta testing especially on the text function, ive got a weird semi working keyboard mapping as i use a mac on w7,
so would like to know if the system i chose work on other computers..

edit: ive just reopened on init there is something wrong have to go to midi and enable then disable "dispach preset" then should be ok, try with the preset "zylophen on helios,
addonns/other

at the time ou want a working/updating scroll, things complicate a bit, especially with feedback/colors, ect..
but why make it complex sometimes...

yup i play around a few months ago with liveOsc, but it was a little hard to get working, I managed to control simple commands like tempo, but i gave up at the time of controling clips cause i needed to send osc messages that i thought usine couldn't send like word, integer, integer or something like that ( it could comes from elewhere). but i should definitevely retry as it could really simplify the task and maybe the liveosc project has evolved since that time.

the actual system is midi based and really boring to decode, first each clip needs a CC assigned, then it send out 0 value went stop, 127 when trigg, 126 when loaded, 1 when playing, having to decode this for all tracks is a bit complex...

ill recheck this, i would love to truely get the color and caption from live, it's a really old big challenge but since the lemur actually can, it must be possible. thanks for my old first challenge reminder..

i imagine how many live user would enjoy that, having a clip grid with names and colors, on multitouch screen, it's a graal for many, actuay only 2 expensive solutions exist: lemur or max msp, providing a usine/usine free version would be awesome...
let's try but im afraid ableton didn't suported osc because of their deal with max., every update seems to change a bit in names that make maintenance a bit hard, at least that was the point when i was interested in the project,...maybe it has envolved since..

edit: as i quick checked it seems it has been updated for live8, so it seems really positive :)
and updating is a doable thing after all..

roooo and i just checked V5 osc updates woooow oh yeah seems possible now!
arf why don't i have long nights holidays..

23fx23,
have you at all tried to access the LiveAPI via OSC from Usine?

For me, a video that my desire to get into the live
(touch) is the video if you can find below.

do you think it is easy to develop the same interface (version
Ableton)

Semple assign a carrer, assign effects, volume, filter.

I would love to start creating a wordspace in this sense

yop guys a new square is out v2.3
highly recommended update :)
