As you noticed, I?ve decided to change the rules of donations on Usine. You are right, now Usine looks like a shareware. The main difference is that you can decide the price you want to pay for this soft. We should invent new term: something like a ?priceware??
Before more explanation, let me tell you the story. I?ve decided to develop Usine 10 years ago, especially for my own utilization. (I make about 60 shows per year with Usine).
Two years ago, a couple of friends of mine ask me to develop a new version available for all the community as because they were thinking that this software fills a lack in the electronic music spectra.
So, I?ve decided to create a donation-ware version of Usine.
Now the real question is: What is the additional cost of the donation-ware version compare to the private one (personal utilization)?
I don?t want to enter in details, but just remind to you some precise points.
1)The Delphi environment is free for personal utilization, to make a free or shareware I have to buy a specific professional version.
2)The same thing with the Intel DSP library.
3)Pay someone to create, maintain, host and improve the internet site (complex with the SQL data base).
I don?t really want to make money with Usine but, just cover the additional cost. To tell you the truth, actually the donations represent a small part of this amount.
So I?ve decided to ?boost? donations a little. In fact the only solution I found is to ?lock? a part of the program.
Do you have other ideas?
But remember that you can donate what you want.Statistics: Posted by senso — 03 Aug 2006, 10:37
